What are Archetypal Symbols?

- Archetypal symbols are visual imprints that are universally contained within our psyches. These symbols are the language of the sub-conscious.  This language can trigger responses and communicate ideas faster and more effectively than mere words ever can.  This is one of the reasons we respond so powerfully to visual art. 

- Carl Jung was the first modern thinker to explore this idea of archetype and reality as metaphor.  'Archetype' is an innate prototype contained in the mind, carried within us all both individually and as a collective sub-conscious.
