The Cornish Art Scene
- Cornwall is a beautiful rural region at the far south-western tip of England, full of wild coastlines, breath-taking moor lands, derelict tin-mines and gorgeous beaches.
- Famed for centuries for the amazing quality of it's light, Cornwall began to be very popular as an artist haven beginning in the early 18th century.
Famous Art Schools and Artists
- Many famous schools of art have sprung up from this region, including the celebrated Newlyn School of Art, Penzance School of Art and the St.Ives School of Art.
- Famous artists who has spent time in the region include: Turner, Whistler, Barbara Hepworth, Naum Gabo, Adrian Stokes, Peter Lanyon and many more. More recent artists are Roger Hilton,John Wells, Patrick Heron, Wilhelmina Barns Graham, Terry Frost, Sven Berlin, Deni Mitchell, Karle Wesche, Paul Feiler and Bryan Winter.
Liberation and Creativity
- The region to this days draws artists and artistic people from all over the world. Many traditional craftspeople also flourish in this region, including textile artists, potters and blacksmiths.
- In the late 1960's it also became a popular 'hippy' destination and to this day still retains the flavor of liberation and creativity.
- This was an amazing environment for an artist to come of age. The inspiration of this creative and special place has deeply influenced the works of The Art Abundance Project.
